The 9th Annual Warrior Run took place on November 4, 2017. 170 participants showed up for the race. Despite the chilly weather and fog, participants were energetic. The purpose of the run was to raise funds for the Wyobraska Veterans and Military Families Emergency Relief Organization. The organization provides assistance to veterans and military families thanks to the funds raised from each Warrior Run. This year, over $20,000 was raised in sponsorship alone.
The atmosphere of the Warrior Run is always a positive one. Many volunteers helped to set up the event and keep it running smoothly between the 5K, 10K, and Kids Fun Run. People who didn’t participate in the run/walk cheered the runners on, passed out flags at the finish line, and browsed the raffle drawing offerings. After all of the participants returned, the awards ceremony was held. The medals were given out to the top three participants in each age group for the 5K and 10K.
The organization’s impact on the community is substantial. The Warrior Run is coordinated by Dave Wolf and his whole family is involved. During the event, he told the participants and bystanders stories of veterans and active military members thanking them for their work. The stories give hope to those who might need assistance and inspire participants to keep coming out for the event. Legacy of the Plains Museum would like to thank the community for coming out to support the event.
