Every year, the Legacy of the Plains Museum Harvest Festival features a different crop for historic demonstrations. Harvest Festival XVIII will feature sugar beets.
If you know nothing about sugar beets, the 2014 Harvest Festival on September 20-21 will be a great place to learn about them! Even if you know a lot about sugar beets, you may learn some things about historic techniques of farming beets. And if you know it all already – we would welcome you to come to the museum and help with the demonstrations!
The museum is seeking sugar beet equipment, photos, documents, etc., for use in historic demonstrations and display. If you have something to share, please call 308-436-1989 and ask for Jack or Charlie.
We have may a particularly unique element to Harvest Festival this year. Thanks to the generosity of a museum supporter who is allowing the use of sugar shares, the museum will also be planting sugar beets on our farm ground, in addition to the plots for historic demonstrations. If the weather and harvest timing works out, we may be able to demonstrate modern harvest techniques alongside historic ones!
Stay tuned for updates!
