The Legacy of the Plains Museum was formed in 2013, combining the North Platte Valley Museum and the Farm and Ranch Museum. Our campus encompasses nearly 100 acres, which houses our museum buildings, farm land, and pastures. It is a destination for people interested in stories of human and agricultural history in the North Platte Valley and the High Plains.
The legacy of the area has been formed by everyone that has passed through the area, and it continues to this day. We serve area residents who wish to preserve and learn about their heritage as well as researchers and tourists from around the country and world who seek historical resources, education, and entertainment.
Phase one included the merger of the museums, additions to the main building, the exhibit design, and much more. Because of the hard work and excellent design, the Legacy of the Plains has become on of the top museums in the region. Phase two will put us in the same category as the museum in Lincoln, Omaha, and Denver.
The Legacy of the Plains’ Board of Directors has worked diligently on developing a plan for the next five years. They have prioritized several projects that we believe will allow us to compete with any museum in the region. The plan is a nice mix of large and small projects that will enhance the story of our history. By seeing more outside attractions, the board hopes to attract more visitors.
The campus is divided into different areas called sites. Each site listed below has a link which will show a current project to show what has been completed, and a future project that has been prioritized. Pictures have been included to help visualize. Our goal is to raise $2 million to accomplish these projects and more.
*Reminder, the museum does not receive any funding from the Federal, State, or Local government, expect in the forms of grants. Our general operating budget relies solely on private contributions. *
