Winter, despite the often dismal weather, is an exciting time for us at the Legacy of the Plains Museum. Some of our most exciting events happen in our slower months. Trees Along the Trail is just one of those events.
Trees Along the Trail kicked off this year with the High Plains Christmas on December 2nd. It was a beautiful day for the event with temperatures around 60 degrees. We had horse drawn wagon and buggy rides, marshmallow roasting, letters to Santa, entertainment from the Prairie Fiddlers, and tree voting as per usual. We introduced a few new things this year: Emily Hauck from AmeriCorps made Christmas ornaments out of recyclable materials with kids, a board member brought out turkeys, and a buy one get one membership special! All of these events went over well. The trees, activities, and visitors all made the event very special.Trees Along the Trail voting will continue until December 22nd. Tickets can be purchased at the museum and are only $1 a piece.
Along with Trees Along the Trail and High Plains Christmas, we’re hosting a new event this year!
Yuletide Lights on the Prairie is a spectacular night of lights and holiday fun. The main gallery will be light up in Christmas lights with the lights shut off, giving a magical feel to the exhibits you normally see in the daytime. Hot chocolate and cookies will be served as refreshments. Holiday fun activities are also in the works so plan on coming out! This fundraiser’s proceeds will go towards purchasing a new furnace for the museum.
Yuletide Lights on the Prairie will take place from 5-8 PM on Friday, December 15th. Admission is discounted for the evening and we encourage any and all people to come out!
As the year comes to a close, we’d like to wish all of those associated with the museum Happy Holidays and a Happy New Year!!
We will be closed on Christmas Eve, Sunday December 24th, Christmas, Monday December 25th, New Year’s Eve, Sunday December 31st, and New Year’s Day, Monday January 1st, 2018.
