Donations

Legacy of the Plains Museum’s revenues come from independent sources, including annual memberships, museum admissions, fundraising events, gift shop sales, rentals, grants and corporate sponsorships. Donations and memorial contributions are another important part of our revenue. We’re fortunate to have a community of generous supporters to help fund many activities at Legacy of the Plains.

Your donation is completely tax-deductible. Our federal tax ID number is 47-0724415. You may send a check to:

Operations

Legacy of the Plains must raise a minimum level of funding each year to cover our basic operating expenses including utilities, insurance, building and grounds maintenance, and salaries for our minimal staff, which consists of a full-time executive director, part-time curator, a part-time office manager, and a part-time maintenance. Additional funds are needed to purchase supplies for collections care and educational events. A goal of the museum is to increase income to enable us to add staff as we grow and to provide a wider range of services to visitors, school groups, and the community at large.

Amazon Smile

Amazon Smile is a simple and automatic way for you to support your favorite charitable organization every time you shop, at no cost to you. When you shop on Amazon Smile, you get the added bonus that Amazon will donate a portion (0.5%) of the purchase price from your eligible purchases. This is an excellent way to support the museum while shopping online. For a link to our page, click here.

Capital Campaign

We have recently started Phase Two of our Capital Campaign, with the focus on the outside of the main building.  The projects include a outdoor playground, two buildings to house equipment, a railway exhibit, bunkhouse, rural school/church, a pathway around the campus, and many more.   These significant achievements are being made possible by the support and partnership of various community supporters.

The Legacy of the Plains Museum Board of Directors, staff, and members thank the many generous contributors to our campaign. Granting agencies and corporate donors that have publicly pledging to the project include:

  • Platte Valley Companies (PVC) — $100,000
  • 21st Centruy Equipment 0 $50,000
  • Riverstone Bank – $30,000
  • Kelley Bean – $30,000
  • Sandberg Implement – $15,000

Individual donors are honored on “square acres” on our “plat map” donor board in the museum lobby.

We have ambitious plans for our exhibits and visitor amenities that will make Legacy of the Plains a major tourist draw. You can help by contributing to the capital campaign. For more information about the capital campaign, please contact the museum at 308-436-1989.

Our museum receives no state or federal funding to go towards any of our costs.
