We are pleased to announce the results of this year’s annual Trees Along the Trail Christmas tree decorating contest. Before we announce the winners, we’d like to say that this year, there were some spectacular trees! There were many that were just votes apart, we have our winners!
This year’s first place is the Katahdin Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution with their tree, “Flock to Freedom”.
Our second place winner and the President’s Choice is the Scotts Bluff County Home Extension Council with their tree dedicated to Nebraska’s Sesquicentennial in the upcoming year.
Coming in third place is the Wildcat Audubon Society!
As an additional special announcement, we’d like to mention that in the upcoming year, Legacy of the Plains has worked out a deal with the Scotts Bluff County Home Extension Council to have their tree on display during next year’s special Nebraska 150th birthday exhibit so you can some see it on display in 2017.
We’d like to thank everyone who participated and hope you’ll continue to do so. We’ll see you in the new year!
Legacy of the Plains Museum is looking festive! We rarely have to decorate – because all of the community decorates for us with this wonderful fundraiser!
Several weeks ago, various local community organizations came in with their trees and decorated them to be unique. As of December 3rd, voting began. Museum visitors can purchase their vote tickets at the museum for $1 each. Once the visitor selects their favorites, they simply put their tickets into the small red bag beside the tree.
By this Friday afternoon at 4pm, we will do a count of the tickets to determine the first, second and third prize winners who will receive a cash prize to their organization. Also, the tree which wows the board president the most will also receive a cash prize.
But that’s not all! For every ticket cast, $0.50 will go towards the museum and the other $0.50 goes towards the organization who decorated the tree. This means that even if a tree doesn’t place, they still receive half of the price of the vote ticket. Isn’t that great? Everyone is a winner in the end. This is why we highly encourage stuffing the ballot box – it supports other nonprofit organizations in the area.
Voting will end Friday, December 23 at 4pm. At this time, we will no longer be selling the tree tickets in order to allow plenty of time to count the votes. Winners will be announced the week following Christmas.
Coming up soon is the Legacy of he Plains’ annual Trees Along the Trail tree decorating contest! The contest is a great way to creatively showcase your nonprofit organization or service club to scores of people who come in to view the beautiful display of Christmas trees. The voting will kick off on Saturday, December 3rd during our High Plains Christmas event and go until December 23rd at 4pm.
If you have a nonprofit organization or service club and would like to participate, please call the museum at (308) 436 – 1989 to get your organization on our list so we know how many trees to expect. Please provide a small plant stand or end table to be used for your vote ticket container and literature about your organization.
Here’s how it works:
Set up and decorate your tree with your end table. We provide the vote containers. From December 3rd until the 23rd, friends and neighbors who visit the museum can cast $1 per vote ticket. Your organization keeps 50 cents of each vote, and the other 50 cents supports the museum. If your organization is among the top three vote-getters, your organization could win $100, $50 or $25. And if your tree wows the board president, it wins the $50 President’s Choice Award.
